Stephen A. Benjamin was born in New York City. He received his B.A. from Brandeis University, and his D.V.M. and Ph.D. in pathology from Cornell University. He has served on the faculty of two medical schools and one college of veterinary medicine. He is currently Emeritus Professor at Colorado State University.

Dr. Benjamin’s teaching and research interests have spanned the areas of toxicology, radiation biology, cancer research, and veterinary medicine. He has authored or co-authored over 100 publications and book chapters. He is best known for his contributions regarding radiation and cancer and has served on National Academy of Sciences committees dealing with the effects of radiation on human health. His fiction draws heavily on his scientific and medical background for both his novels and short stories.

Dr. Benjamin lives in Colorado with his wife. His enjoys travel, especially to visit his family, fishing, camping, golf, skiing, drawing and painting, cooking, and good wine.
